Sailor Moon Crystal - 3rd Live event summary!

Ever since the return of Sailor Moon in a new anime was first announced back in 2012, fans have begged and pleaded for more info on our beloved series! For almost two long years we had little to no details on the anime. It wasn't until March of this year that we heard the name and had a look at the character design with a poster leaked online for Sailor Moon Crystal.

Finally after months and months of waiting, we have now more concrete information and images, IT'S ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!! The event live was announced at the beginning of April, and for once, it wasn't only for press, but fans were encouraged to buy tickets to the presentation. It was held April 27th at the Makuhari Messe super venue. About 500 fans were part of this important moment where we learned so much about the future of Sailor Moon!

The first guest to appear was our very beloved and current face of all things Moonie: Fumio Osano a.k.a Osabu! The manga editor gave a quick recap of the history of Sailor Moon and showed us some of the Kanzenban mangas he brought along as well as the Proplica Moon Stick and Moonlight Memory Luna Pen (due for release in July 2014, you can buy it HERE). Then the series director for Sailor Moon Crystal Munehisa Sakai and the producer who both talked about their approach to the series. They specified they really wanted to respect the source material and had direct input for the design and stories from Naoko Takeuchi. Just to come up with a title it took them a few months to come up with one that everybody felt satisfied with and truly represented the essence of Naoko. It's really amazing to see they've gone to such lengths to please her and the fandom!

Afterwards the main five stage performers for Sailor Moon Musical appeared on stage! Most of us were extremely happy to see them back! All previous actresses are set to return! Satomi Okubo as Sailor Moon, Kanon Nanaki as Mars, Yu Takahashi as Jupiter, Shiori Sakata as Sailor Venus, and even Yuga Yamato as Tuxedo Mask!! The only exception is Sailor Mercury (previously played by Miyabi Matsura) who will now be played by newcomer Momoyo Koyama

Also new dates and title for the new Musical have been announced! It will be called Bishoujo Senshi Seeraamuun ~Petite Étrangère~ (Small foreigner). This time around they will have performances in Tokyo at the Aiia Theatre from August 21st - 31st and will tour in Osaka at the Umeda Arts Theater September 5th - 7th, 2014! The plot will be based on the Dark Moon Arc from the manga, so we are also going to see new actresses for Sailor Pluto, ChibiUsa and the villains of the Dark Moon clan! SO EXCITING!

Tokyo
 Aiia Theatre. August 21st - 31st, 2014.
 Osaka
 Umeda Arts Theater. September 5th - 7th, 2014.

Also, for those who were waiting for an official La Reconquista DVD (I know I've begged for this for  far too long! XD) they have finally confirmed a release date for it! The two-volume + booklet DVD will be out July 9th, 2014 and is already available for pre-order in CD Japan!

After the event, the official Sailor Moon Twitter account shared this picture of all the special guests behind the scenes. It's very heartwarming to see they're all very happy to be part of the revival!

After a brief interview about their audition process and experiences on stage with the Myu actresses, the presentations concluded, the host moved on to what we were all looking forward to: News and images of Sailor Moon Crystal! First and foremost, the voice actresses.

Moon: Mitsuishi Kotono
Mercury: Hisako Kanemoto
 Mars: Rina Sato
Jupiter: Ami Koshimizu
Venus: Shizuka Ito

I think I speak for most of us here when I say FUUUCCCKKK YYYEEEAAAHHHH Kotono is back!!! Her work as Sailor Moon in the classic anime is superb, she knew how to give Usagi the perfect balance between lazy klutziness, noble spirit and badass warrior princess. I'm so glad she's back and I hope the new talents bring it as well, they have a lot to live up to. The voice for Tuxedo Mask has not been confirmed, but I personally believe we'll see Tohru Furuya return for this one. We'll see.

The air date for Sailor Moon Crystal is July 5th, 2014 starting from 7 p.m. As this is an online streaming broadcast, you can catch up with it at any point afterward, much like YouTube or Crunchyroll. The series is bi-weekly, meaning there will be one episode every two weeks, or twice a month. It will be available FREE on NicoNico douga, but if you prefer a commercial-free transmission, then it's recommended you buy a Preimuim Niconico service which only costs about $5 USD/month . I think it's worth it as you'll get to see it at the highest quality right when it comes out, plus (presumably) the series will already be subtitled so you won't have to wait for fan dubs, not to mention you will be directly supporting the release.

The air date for Sailor Moon Crystal is
JULY 5th, 2014 at 7:00 pm (jp) on Nico Nico Douga!

After the event, The official Sailor Moon website gifted us with an amazing collection of Yukie Sakou's character design which id just mind-blowingly amazing! It's so in line with Naoko's style, something we never even thought was possible! Just llok at those long legs, retro-shoujo eye sytling and flowy hair! It must be very hard to animate in this style, so now we have to pla
