Sailor Moon 2013 Anime confirmed!

SAILOR MOON IS GETTING A
NEW ANIME IN SUMMER OF 2013!!
C  O  N  F  I  R  M  E  D!

Just as reported a week ago, the 'talk event' presented by Nico Nico was held today and it did not let us down! In fact this is THE BEST NEWS we have had EVER. From the beginning, we knewthis had to be an important announcement because not only did it appear on the SailorMoon Official Channel, but also on Kodansha's official website, and the Crunchyroll's blog as well. They had gone the extra mile to make sure we all received the message about the event and made sure to have it available for all to watch. The last blog post, I analyzed why this could potentially become huge news. With no major happenings or appearances coming out from Japan considering this is such an iconic series, we were starting to worry if they weren't going to celebrate it at all! Luckily we have been rewarded for our years of patience and fandom
Disclaimer: The following translations are made by a fan who has not studied Japanese in about 7 years, so DO NOT TAKE ANY OF THESE AS A FAITHFUL TRANSLATIONS. I could have screwed everything up. This is just to give you guys a general idea of what was said during the event.

The presentation was about one hour and a half long and it began at 7:30 pm Tokyo time. Most of us set out alarm clocks to wake up before sunrise in order to catch the annoucement. Moonies all over the world tuned in and were witnesses to this incredible event.

First, the main guests were invited in: Kotono Mitsuishi (voice actress for Sailor Moon), Tohru Furuya (voice actor for Tuxedo Mask), and the Sailor Moon manga editor Fumio Osano (OSA-P). For the first half an hour, the reminisced on the origins of the manga and anime. Mr. Fumio worked closely with Mr. Takeuchi to bring Sailor Moon to life. In fact, he had such strong input, that we might never seen Sailor Moon as we know it if it weren't for him.

Then, they moved on to talk about how Kotono had come into the role and how she shaped it. If my Japanese is still functional (too many years without practising), Naoko-sensei was there during her first audition. She was given the scene where Usagi oversleeps for school and also the transformation speech to voice over. She imagined Usagi as a normal, lively girl and she had to find ways to translate this into a palbable emotion. Tohru Furuya, on the other hand wasn't auditioned, he was asked to look at the script and once he saw the part where Mamoru would be wearing a mask, cape, top hat and tuxedo, he thought it was a really cool magician-like style hero and dove right into it! :D

Then they start talking to Fumio Osano. He said that for around six months in, they actually had to consider canceling the Sailor Moon because it wasn't doing so well with the sponsors, but it was safe by the time the "moon stick" has appeared in the series.  It's funny that it wasn't until this event that Kotono herself ever heard about this.

Then they talk about the Sailor Moon plush she is carrying around. She says that the one she's carrying was given to her by Fumio Osano, but that she has another dirtier one at home given to her by Hideaki Anno (the director of the Evangelion series). They continue to talk about the fandom and experiences outside of the recording studio.

If I understood correctly,  the 5 inner senshi VAs decided to put on a live show to sing the character songs, but their boss strictly forbade them from using Sailor Moon name for their group (copyright stuff I suppose) so they called themselves "Peach Hips" (Momoji musume). They had to practice their choreography and all but there is no existing video or record of these events. Then we finally get connected to the Japan Expo 2012 happening in Paris. They open the transmission with a great video homage of the anime transformation scenes, and then the Momoiro Clover Z group perfomed the legendary "Moonlight Densetsu" OP song in front of a live audience.

After the song, two presenters (a Japanese and a French one) announce that the Sailor Moon manga is finally arriving to France too! It is not publishd by Kodansha, it will be published by French company Pika. And then they drop the HUGEST SURPRISE FOR US ALL AND LET US KNOW A BRAND NEW SAILOR MOON ANIME WILL BE PRODUCED FOR SUMMER 2013!! and that MOMOIRO CLOVER Z will be singing the themes!!  They sung two very lond songs but as of now, we cannot confirm that these will ideed be the OP/ED themes. At least we get a preview of what they sound like.

Once again we return to the interview in Japan. It's so cute that that Osa-P is in huge shock at this news and he states that he had no idea about this until now. Again, pardon my bad Japanese, but I'll try to figure this out: Kotono explains that last year when she was at the Toei offices on 'Pretty Cure' business, the Staff at Toei always told her that they watched Sailor Moon when they were kids ( some even cried) and that they really wanted to meet her. These people were animators had grown with the anime and really love the series and they were the ones who really wanted to remake it.

It's also noteworthy that the voice actors really feel kind of intimidated about the new anime asking "I wonder if I can pull it off" and such. They so humble and nice people, these two ^^!! They just want to make a fun show and not let down anyone.

Finally, they apologize for Naoko-sensei not being present in the event and read a letter she wrote out loud. In general she expresses how nervous and happy she is about the news she just heard and that even though 20 years have passed, she feels very loved by the fans around the world who enjoy the series. She also says she hopes we enjoy this new adventure or in the name of the Moon she'll punish us XD! (this is BY NO MEANS an accurate translation.)

Needless to say, this news is THE BEST thing we could ever receive. Everything we ever dreamed of  WILL BE GIVEN TO US NEXT YEAR! I'm sure the new anime will bring a new wave of RPG toys and dolls, along with many other things like CDs, DVDs, games, and maybe even Musicals? Who knows! We're all going wild with anticipation but we'll have to be patient Moonies ^^.

While this event was unfolding, fans who were watching the live stream posted many messages all around Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. Many were translating, others were guessing and most of us were just excited to be there together like beauty pageants waiting for the big reveal xD! So, yeah, it was expected that Sailor Moon and Japan Expo would trend :D!

Just as a final notes. Kotono Mitsuishi's blog has some behind the scenes pictures of this event. I recommend bookmarking it, as she is sure to keep sharing interesting tidbits with all of us in the future. Like this little jewel she poster right after the announcement. So cuuute <3

Also, don't forget to visit MissDream who will soon post more accurate translations for the event and post videos if you want to see the entire thing. And finally, Brad from Moonkitty.net found the official video of the song Momoiro Clover Z sung at Japan Expo. As I said before, we don't know for sure that these will be the songs used in the anime (a lot can happen in a year) but it IS confirmed that they'll sing the themes for the anime. So we can get a general idea of how they sound in these vids.

What do you guys think about all this!?! What are your feels!? OMG, I AM A HUGE MESS right now. Just as I heard the news, I was shaking, sweating, nauseated and had an urge to vomit (all in a good way!). It stirred such a powerful wave of physical emotions. Just as many of you, I've been a follower of this series for many many many years, and anything involving the sailor suited heroine will always make me giddy! A revival with this day's technology and high quality material is something we all wished for and WE SO EXCITED TO FINALLY HAVE IT!! AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

2013 cannot come soon enough!! :D!
