English ReDub.

Hey Moonies.

I must admit I'm not really a fan of the English SM Dub, the voices, the editions made and things like "Sailor Moon Says" snippets were kind of uncalled for. I know, I know, there were reasons for all these changes, but, well I grew up on a closely dubbed version and I'm am very fond of both the Spanish and the Japanese ones.

Lisa pointed me to MoonChase's post that leads to a survey that Funimation is conducting in order to know what anime DVDs fans are interested in and the options include the SailorMoon ReDubbed Series.

As I said, I'm really not that fond of the English Dub but I DO think that if they ReDub it, they can do make it a wee bit closer to the original, deliver the complete series to English speaking audiences and.... OF COURSE!, bring the SM community back to life!! The Moon Chasers have an article that asks us to make sure we write in the comments in the survey to use the original Dub Cast instead of newcomers, but I personally disagree, if there will be a new Dub, voices should be closer to the Japanese ones. But then again, what do I know? I didn't grow up on that version so ignore my opinion.

You can read SailorDee's thoughts HERE.

After you have read Moon Chase's post, and decided on whether you want new voice actors or not, click HERE, cast your vote and write down your comments.

Hopefully our opinions make a difference.

Don't really read Moon Chase (not a fan) but I did like a lot of DiC's voice actors and would like to see them return. However I also kind of agree that an all new cast would be refreshing and would give me a reason to check it out.

My two concerns are: 1) They cast English actors that sound like the Japanese ones. English speaking people don't spek like Japanese people. Look at the English version of the second Card Captors movie? The producers listened to the fans (bad idea!) and cast actors that spoke like the original Japanese cast. What we ended up with was very strange Care Bear-ish speaking female characters in the leads. Ugh.

2) A redub will REALLY confuse casual fans (90% of the audience). People still think the new Batman movies are connected to the Tim Burton ones for example. Same will happen here.

Well said, Brad. Overall, I'm skittish about the idea. The English Sailor Moon dub holds a very dear place in my heart. Its cast and crazy edits made it a very unique show, my very favorite, even 14 years later. I'd hate to see it completely overhauled and my beloved 90's English version go by the wayside. A re-release of the series in updated high-quality, however...hmmm!

Brad: Ohh!!! First let me thank you for not hunting me down with pitchforks and torches, I know you are a huge fan of the english dub and I thought you might hate on me. SO glad you didn't!!! And well, I see your point on several issues (I had no idea about the CSS thing),But whether they decide to change the VAs or not, all I'm really hoping for is a less censored/manipulated version u.u

Eku: Yeah , good point too, if the previous dub made you a fan for so long, I can see the conflict. I would absolutely dread a new Spanish version when I've grown so fond of the one I saw back then.

Still hope it gets made though! No matter what they do I'm looking forward to the Moonie Online Community being revived.... again. ;)

Its no problem! Just wanted to let every Moonie know about this news! We rarely get any new news lol.

I also love the DIC dub version, even though it was cut, they still made it unique and fun to watch! If they decide to redo everything and be close to the original, I will see it as a new version of Sailor Moon and look forward how they would interupt Sailor Moon.

I personally cant stand the Cloverway dub, so I dont watch it at all and redo of it will be great. I would love to finally own an offical version of Stars and see an English dub of it!

I hope this will bring the Sailor Moon community come back alive and hope with this we get a retranslation of the manga with the new covers. Tokyo Pop did a bad job of it.

I hope Toei & Naoko will allow the Sailor Moon license free once more. :D

Just thought of something that would solve everything!

Just call the redub, "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon" and keep the original DiC dub "Sailor Moon". Easy!!!

That actually IS a good idea Brad, but fisrt thing's first: We gotta get MORE ppl to vote so that we can make it happen!! :D

Heh, I voted for SM too, along with another more recnet favourite of mine Kuroshitsuji. It was very strange to see them both together!

I'm not so bothered on a new dub, the DiC dub was cute =D and I could watch it but choose not too.
I hate the cloverway dub however, so yes S and SuperS redubbed would be good. Along with a Stars dub. But to be honest I watch one episode in english then not another one. I'm not fond of english dubs.

I would LOVE a redub, just for uncut purposes. But overall I actually enjoyed SM Dub, and Cloverway... what were the odds of seeing the SMS season?! I am grateful for them being able to license it. A few mistakes but nothing that bothered me... since I am not a huge anime purist when it comes to dubbing, I watch all kinds of dubs in a lot of languages.

The acting and the voices for the DiC dub were great. So people certainly can't rag on that. And as much as I would like to hear the original Canadian cast return, I doubt they would be up for it and they would have other projects going on.

And I would actually Like to hear an American Cast try out.

To me, they don't have to try and sound like the Japanese voices. That would be just parroting - instead of finding their own voice. That was one problem Serena's VA for SMS had. She was trying so hard to imitate Terri, that she sounded awkward, but as the episodes went on, she found her own voice to work with and (to me) was doing great.

The only way Funimation would make this possible, is to get it on TV. And if it is true that they are redubbing - I hope for all - that they can find a network that will accept it.

I wasn't much of a fan of all of the DiC actors, especially Serena's, Amy's, Darien's, and Luna's. Amy's and Luna's VAs had the same problem - the early anime dubbing tendency to make prim or intellectual characters sound like British grandmothers (this happened with Ayeka in Tenchi Muyo also). Raye, Lita, and Mina's VAs were all right. I think I'd rather have an all new cast, but then I'm a long-time fan.

I do hope that this becomes reality. I have heard good things about Funimation's dubs. I saw the Tsubasa and xxxHolic movies, which were dubbed by them. They were well done.

I think if Sailor Moon were to be redubbed by any American company, I'd vote for either Funimation or for ADV (who does some really good dubs as well).

The quality of anime dubs has gone up a lot since Sailor Moon first came here in '95, so I think if it gets redubbed, it'll be better, no matter who does it. Plus, if Stars FINALLY gets dubbed officially due to this, all the better. (If only the Japanese animators hadn't changed Naoko-san's intent for the Starlights' genders, we might have gotten Stars sooner).

The only reason I wouldn't complain about a re-dub is it would stir-up some attention for sailor moon and they would probably put out new merch/DVD's/Box Sets/Manga/Ect...

and anything is better then nothing, right!?
